HOBY is a premier youth leadership development program. If your school has nominated your son or daughter to attend the Leadership Seminar in your state, Congratulations! The fact that your child was invited to HOBY implies leadership potential and academic preparedness consistently found in the best high school sophomores in the country. During the seminar your child will have the opportunity to interact with other sophomores from around your state and region and pose a number of questions to our panelists and keynote speakers.

2010 Seminar FAQ's

Q1. Where can I find more specific information on the HOBY seminar?
a. A last minute packet of information that includes maps & directions to Rice, a packing list & dress code, and plenty of other details will be posted to this website in mid-May.

Q2. Will I hear from HOBY before the seminar?
a. Each ambassador will receive a phone call from their adult team leader by the end of May. Your team leader can help answer specific questions about the weekend.

Q3. When do I need to be at HOBY?
a. Arrival at the seminar is from 7:30 – 8:15 AM on Friday, June 4 and departure is approximately 1 PM on Sunday, June 6. Directions for where to drop off students will be included in the last minute packet.

Q4. Is there a parents program that I/my parents can attend?
a. There will a parents program and awards ceremony on Sunday, June 6 at 10:15 AM. Each student is allowed 2 guests due to seating limitations at Rice. Information on location and timing will be in the last minute packet.

Q5. I/my student have another obligation during the weekend. Can they leave and come back?
a. No. Because we pack so many activities into the weekend, it is important that you attend the entire HOBY event.
